“We” and “us” means Unavia Technologies Inc., the company that runs Unseen Hours, based in Ontario, Canada. Questions? Email [email protected].
The short version
- You don’t need a name, email or phone number to start. You begin as a guest.
- Adding an email is optional. It’s used so you can log back in and to send you login codes. It’s never shown to anyone.
- Your onboarding answers, lock-in notes and ratings are only visible to you.
- Private messages are only possible between accountability partners or people who follow each other, and only the two of you can read them (unless one of you reports a message).
- Your username, bio, streak and hours can be seen by other people. You can take yourself off the live ticker and The Market, and hide your goals, any time.
- Tips are optional, go through the App Store, and unlock nothing. We never see your card or payment details.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads, or use tracking or analytics tools.
- You can delete your account and everything you made at any time, right in the app.
- Unseen Hours is for adults 18 and over.
1. Your account
Guest accounts. The first time you open Unseen Hours, it creates a guest account for you. It has a random ID and nothing that identifies you. If you delete the app or lose your phone without saving your account, you can’t get back into it.
Optional email. If you save your account, you give us an email address and a password so you can log back in on another phone. We use your email only for that: sending you a 6-digit code to confirm it, and a code if you forget your password. We never show it to other people and never send marketing. Passwords are stored in scrambled (hashed) form, so we can’t read them. You need a saved account to post on The Floor, reply, chat in Sessions or send private messages.
Age. Unseen Hours is only for adults 18 and over. We ask you to confirm your age when you start, and store when you confirmed it.
2. What we store
| What | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Account ID, and your email and password if you saved your account | So you can use the app and log back in | Only you. Your email is never shown |
| Username, and when you last changed it | So people know who’s putting in the work | Everyone |
| Profile photo (optional), shown in black and white | To show next to your name | Signed-in adults, unless they blocked you or you blocked them |
| Bio (“What are you building?”) | To show on your profile | Everyone |
| Where you’re from (optional, whatever you type, like a city) | To show on your profile | Everyone |
| Onboarding answers: your dream, what you’re working on, and what’s holding you back | To shape the app around you | Only you |
| Lock-ins: when you started and stopped, how many minutes, and the day | To count your hours, streak and Receipts | Your hours, streak and whether you’re locked in right now are shown on your profile, The Floor’s live ticker and The Market (you can turn off the ticker and The Market) |
| Which goal a lock-in was for, how it went, and what you got done | To show hours by goal and your notes in Receipts | Only you |
| Goals: title, category, and when you finished them | So you can track them and tag your time | Shown on your profile and The Market if you saved your account and “Show my goals” is on. Otherwise only you |
| Streaks, weekly worth, weeks won and badges | To run streaks and The Market | Everyone, unless you turn off “Show me on the ticker and The Market” |
| Posts on The Floor: words, photos, which goal a post proves, and streak milestones | To share them with the community | Everyone, with your username |
| Goals you hit and choose to share: the goal’s words and the hours of lock-ins behind it | To celebrate them on The Floor and the live ticker | Everyone, with your username. Only if you tap “Post it to The Floor” |
| Replies to posts | To share them with the community | Everyone, with your username |
| Earlier versions of posts and replies you edit | So moderators can see what was reported before an edit | Moderators only. Everyone else sees only the current words |
| Respect you give posts | To show support | Everyone sees the totals, not who gave it. The post’s author may get a notification with your username |
| Who you follow, and who follows you | For the Following feed, and to decide who can message whom | Everyone sees the counts. Who you follow is used only inside the app |
| Your accountability partner, partner requests and nudges | To run partnerships | You and your partner (they see your streak and whether you locked in today) |
| Private messages: the words, who sent them to whom, when, and whether they’ve been read | To deliver messages between you and your partner, or people who follow each other | Only the two of you. Moderators see a message only if it’s reported or flagged by the safety check |

| Chat messages in Sessions | To share them with the people there | Everyone in that Session, with your username |
| Reports you make | So moderators can review them | Moderators (not who reported) |
| People you’ve blocked | To hide their posts from you | No one. The person you block is never told |
| Your settings: milestone sharing, ticker and Market visibility, showing goals, and which notifications you want | To respect your choices | Only you |
| Notification token for your phone, if you turn notifications on | To send you the notifications you chose (replies, Respect, messages, Sessions going live, your partner) | No one. Removed when you log out or turn notifications off on the phone |
| When you confirmed you’re 18 or older | To keep Unseen Hours adults-only | Only you |
| Tip records: which tip, which store, the store’s transaction ID and the date | To confirm the tip really happened | Only you |
| Whether a moderator suspended your account, and when | To enforce the community rules | Moderators |
We also briefly process technical information needed to run the service securely, such as your IP address when your phone connects. Our hosting provider keeps short-term security logs.
What we don’t collect: your real name, phone number, contacts, your phone’s location (“Where you’re from” is only what you type), advertising ID, or payment details. The “locked in right now” and “who’s in the room” counts use a live connection. Your daily reminder and Session reminders are scheduled on your phone. The lock-screen timer and home-screen widget are drawn on your phone from your own streak and time; nothing extra is sent to us for them.
3. Photos
If you add a photo to a post or your profile, the app asks for access to your camera or photo library. Only the photo you pick is uploaded. Photos are stored privately and shown only to signed-in adults viewing that post (and to moderators). Profile photos are stored privately too, shown in black and white to signed-in adults, and can be reported; a photo reported by several people is hidden until you change it. Photos are deleted when you delete the post, change or remove your profile photo, or delete your account. Please don’t post photos that show your face, address or anything else that could identify you or someone else.
4. Who can see what
- Other people see only what’s public: your username, bio, where you’re from, posts, replies, chat messages, streak, hours and (if you allow it) your goals. They never see your email or your private messages with someone else.
- Your private things (onboarding answers, lock-in notes and ratings, private goals, blocks and settings) are protected by database security rules so that no other user can read them.
- Moderators can see posts, replies, photos, chat messages and private messages that were reported, flagged by our automatic safety check, or hidden, along with how many reports they got and why, and earlier versions of edited posts and replies. They can’t see your email or your private things through the app.
- The operator. As the company that runs the service, we can technically access everything stored in the database. We only do so when we need to: to keep the service running, fix a problem, respond to a safety emergency, or when the law requires it.
5. Safety checks
Everything you write for other people (usernames, bios, where you’re from, goals, posts, replies, chat messages and private messages) passes through an automatic check that blocks phone numbers, emails and social media handles, and watches for words that suggest someone might be in crisis. If it finds crisis language, what you wrote isn’t shown to anyone else; it goes to a moderator, and the app shows you crisis lines.
6. Tips
Tips are optional and unlock nothing. They’re paid through the App Store (or Google Play, on Android). We never see your card or payment details. After a tip, we ask Apple (or Google) to confirm it and store a small record (listed above). Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies cover the payment itself.
7. Companies that help run Unseen Hours
- Supabase hosts our database, accounts, photos and server functions. Our database is located in the United States (Oregon).
- Expo (650 Industries) delivers notifications to your phone through Apple’s push service, if you turn them on. It receives your notification token and the notification text.
- Resend delivers the emails with your 6-digit codes, if you saved your account.
- Apple distributes the app, processes tips and delivers notifications.
They only process data to provide their service to us. Because these companies are based in the United States, your information is stored and processed there and may be subject to U.S. law. We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers. We only disclose it if the law requires it or to protect someone’s life or safety.
8. How long we keep things
We keep your account and what you made until you delete it, or until you delete a post, reply or goal yourself. Earlier versions of edited posts and replies are kept for moderators for as long as the post or reply exists. Session chat messages and private messages stay stored until the people who wrote them delete their accounts. We may delete long-unused guest accounts. After deletion, data may remain in encrypted backups for a short time before those backups are overwritten.
9. Deleting your account
In the app: You → Delete my account. This permanently deletes your account and everything you made: your photos, posts, replies (and earlier versions of any you edited), profile photo, Respect you gave, follows, your partnership, private messages you sent and received, notification settings and tokens, reports you made, lock-ins, goals, Session seats, chat messages, blocks, tip records, your username and profile, and your email if you saved one. It can’t be undone.
If you can’t open the app, email [email protected] from the address on your account and we’ll delete it for you.
10. Your privacy rights
Unseen Hours follows Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy,
- ask us to correct it,
- withdraw your consent (for example, by deleting your account), and
- complain to us, and if you’re not satisfied, to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).
To make a request, email [email protected]. We’ll reply within 30 days. Unavia Technologies Inc. is responsible for privacy at Unseen Hours.
11. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and protected by database security rules that limit each person to their own private data. No system is perfectly secure, so please don’t post anything that could identify you or anyone else.
12. Children
Unseen Hours is not for anyone under 18. We don’t knowingly keep information about anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 is using Unseen Hours, email [email protected] and we’ll delete the account.
13. Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
